Happy New Year! I know January is almost over but I haven’t blogged in a while. Hope you had a Merry Christmas and wishing you all the best for 2022. My Christmas gift was my son – he was born in November. Consequently it has been such a whirlwind these last few months so I hope you forgive my absence. My own experience in the time leading up to his birth and our family adjusting to the new addition inspired me to write about the importance of self-care once again.
By now I’m sure we all expected this pandemic to be over. When I say over, I mean that the world would be in a place where we were able to resume regular life because it downgraded to a regular cold. Almost 3 years in, we are still wearing masks, still restricted in our movements, still unable to send younger kids to school. To be honest I’m fed up of talking about it but its impact on our lives continues to be so significant. That being said, if you’re constantly trying to figure things out because Covid-19 has quite frankly messed you up, in my case where are the children going to be when I go back to work, this is a reminder to make time for yourself.
How do you make time for yourself? These days you have to truly commit to a time. Maybe Saturday mornings or Sunday evenings. Friday at 7 pm. Pick a time and stick to it. Self care for me right now looks like getting a nap in during the day or sometimes just being able to take a long shower. Every little bit helps because this unprecedented time is taking longer than we thought to sort itself out. I was hopeful that last Christmas would have been “normal” and did not get my wish. This year I’m lowering my expectations so that I’m not disappointed again. In the meantime though, I am making the effort to commit to my self-care routine so that I’m at my best whatever comes. You should do the same. Kudos to you if you already have been.
Let 2022 be the year of focused self-care. Working hard is important, but managing our mental and physical health as the pandemic continues to linger on is even more important. Burning out is not an option. Let’s be ready for the other side of Covid-19 when it comes.

I do so agree. Self care is extremely important if we, as women, are to be the pillars of inspiration in our families.
