You dread getting up to go to work. The issues you need to fix at the office never seem to go away. You feel a step up from tired; you feel weary. Maybe you are suffering from burnout. I watched a video this morning on the signs and symptoms of burnout, which is now being categorized as an illness by the World Health Organization. Stress at the office is unavoidable, but burnout is the stage where you are just unable to get the hang of managing it. Take a look at the video below and see if you could be potentially suffering from burnout (I hope you’re not):
The key takeaways from this video for me were:
- Burnout is a legitimate issue for people. Do not take your symptoms lightly if you are experiencing any.
- You are not alone in your struggle.
- When taking time off, try your best to disconnect from your cell phone as much as possible. This means phone calls from work, emails and even social media.
Wrapping up things at the end of the year tends to be stressful. You’re trying to make sure certain matters do not carry over into the following year and so you work later or harder than usual. Listen to your body and do what you need to do to keep sane. You will never be able to fully clear your desk – something will always come up. That’s just the nature of work. Make sure to manage your stress levels before you reach to the point where you are burnt out.
You can do it. Push through! Have a great week!
