Mental health check!

In honour of World Mental Health Day, which was celebrated yesterday and every year on October 10, today’s short blog is about caring for your mental health. We already know the benefits of this and why it is necessary, but still most of us do not make the time. The World Health Organization defines mental health as “a state of well-being in which an individual realizes his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and is able to make a contribution to his or her community.” Mental health falls under the umbrella of overall health and should not be ignored.

Please make the time to care for your mental health. If you do already, good for you! If not, commit today to making yourself a priority. I read somewhere and have often thought about why the flight attendants advise you to get your own oxygen mask on before treating with anyone in your care. The reason is simple. You have to be in a good state to be able to help others. Keep that in mind when you want to downplay down time for yourself or other self care activities.
